Fire Prevention Week: Prevent Kitchen Fires Share We are in the middle of Fire Prevention Week, which takes place on Oct. 6 to 12 this year and is sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). The message of this year’s Fire Prevention Week is "prevent kitchen fires." While you may not think of this as a significant risk for churches, according to a study done by the NFPA, the kitchen is the number one place of origin for religious property fires, with almost one-third of the fires caused by cooking equipment.
